| Bafut mayor handing writing material to pupils |
Ngwakongoh Lawrence, Mayor of Bafut has donated writing materials to about 300 pupils from his municipality taking part in this year's First School Leaving Certificate examination in Bamenda.
During the donation exercise, the mayor pledged that he will award a total of 10 scholarships to the best pupils at the 2021 First school Leaving Certificate examination (FSLC).
"Because of this number present here today, I have decided to double the scholarship from five pupils in 2020 to ten pupils this 2021", the mayor announced.
While encouraging the pupils to face the exams with serenity, the Mayor reminded them to respect barrier measures against COVID-19. He also gave facemask to all the pupils present.
Mayor Ngwakongoh Lawrence also used the donation exercise to salute the parents who came to accompany their kids. He reminded them that education is a fundamental human right and the children must go to school to become better persons in future.
In 2020, Mayor Ngwakongoh Lawrence carried out the same exercise where just 60 pupils sat the exams as compared to the 300 sitting the exams this year.
