Appointed on June 10, 2021 by the President of the Republic of Cameroon, Tamfu Simon Fai has taken oath of office as the Public Independent Conciliator of the North West region.
The oath taking and swearing ceremony took place Thursday July 8 at the Mezam court of appeal during a special solemn session of the court chaired by Justice Sokem Ngalle, Vice President of the North West Court of Appeal.
Tamfu Simon Fai will according to the law settle disputes among agrieved parties in the region. Given his role,Justice Sokem Ngalle described him as a peace maker.
"You are the family head of this region. You have the mission to bring peace to the region", Justice Sokem Ngalle said.
He also encouraged the Public Independent Conciliator to identify the truth and handle matters with objectivity, impartiality.
The Public Independent Conciliator has a six-year non renewable mandate.
The position of the Public Independent Conciliator came as a result of the Major National Dialogue held in Yaounde, Cameroon from September 30 to October 4, 2019. The office of of the Public Independent Conciliator came alongside the regional assembly and House of Chiefs which is unique to the North West and South West regions of Cameroon.
The Conciliator has no jurisdiction over services placed under the direct or indirect control of the central government as he is expected to work independently.
Tamfu Simon Fai is a native of Taku, a village in the Donga Mantung Division, North West Region of Cameroon. He holds a Master of Science degree in petroleum Geology from the University of Ibadan- Nigeria.
The oath taking ceremony took place in the presence of North West Governor, Adolphe Lele Afrique, the president of the House of Chiefs, Bamenda city mayor alongside some top administrative and religious authorities of North West region.
