Out of 25 earmarked projects to be carried out in the Bamenda II Council municipality for the 2021 fiscal year, 15 of the projects have been executed in the health, education and infrastructural domains.
This was made known Wednesday August 25, 2021 during the mid-term evaluation meeting of the Bamenda II Council.
This rate of evaluation according to Bamenda II Council mayor Peter Chenwi is due to the security challenges in the municipality.
During the mid-term evaluation session, the 27 councillors unanimously voted to set up an equipment pool for the council comprising of heavy duty equipments to facilitate the grading of roads and other projects within the municipality.
"A council like Bamenda II cannot survive without even a heavy duty equipment. Apart from the grading of our roads, we are purchasing these equipment to also serve as an income generating activity for the council", Mayor Peter Chenwi said.
So far, the Bamenda II Council has been able to construct bridges, rehabilitate roads, the women's Empowerment centre, two community Halls.
In the weeks ahead, portable water, solar street lights and better health conditions are some of the projects and services the people of the municipality will be benefiting from in an effort to ameliorate their living conditions.
The revenue collection of the council stands at 18%, a situation which the mayor said is hampering the development plans of his municipality. He however appreciated the Senior Divisional Officer for Mezam, Simon Emile Mooh for setting up a task force made up of the Mayors of Bamenda I, II, III so as to reduce dependence on the state.
At the close of the mid-term evaluation council session, the Director General of the North West Development Authority, MIDENO, Cletus Anye Matoya reminded the councillors on the importance of team work in realizing the councils projects.
As parents prepare for 2021/2022 academic year, the council will distribute books and other school items to the population of Bamenda II municipality.
