CAMTEL, MTN Cameroon Sign MoU, Partner for Better Services

CAMTEL and MTN Cameroon sign MoU

MTN Cameroon and Cameroon Telecommunications, CAMTEL, have signed a memorandum of understanding for the implementation of national roaming services.

The memorandum of understanding was signed Tuesday September 28, 2021 in Yaounde between the both institutions represented by MTN Cameroon Managing Director Mr Stephen Blewett and Mme Achidi née Judith Yah Sunday, CAMTEL's General Manager.

With the signing of this memorandum of understanding, a subscriber of CAMTEL could switch to MTN network in areas not covered by CAMTEL so as to continue to access telecommunications services.

According to the memorandum of understanding, the project will allow CAMTEL subscribers to switch automatically to the partner network and continue to enjoy using their CAMTEL SIM cards.

For Madam Judith Yah Sunday Epse Achidi, CAMTEL’s General Manager,

"Local Roaming is a form of infrastructure sharing used more and more by mobile telephony operators around the world to provide themselves with the means to ensure rapid territorial coverage. As a result, our strategy of presence and diversification throughout the country will be based among others things on Local Roaming through the network of our partner MTN in areas where the CAMTEL network is not yet available in order to provide CAMTEL subscribers with quality service".

The new partnership links the South African giant to the Cameroonian incumbent operator and it reflects the determination of the two operators to improve the customer experience of subscribers.

To Stephen Blewett, Managing Director of MTN Cameroon, "this is yet another act that demonstrates MTN's commitment to contribute to the development of the telecommunications sector in Cameroon. We are thus launching national roaming to ensure that all Cameroonians with a Sim card can remain reachable throughout the National territory".

The signing of this memorandum of understanding is coming at a time when CAMTEL's Blue is about hitting the market in the days ahead and subscribers will now be able to use the brand in areas where the network is still to be installed.
