The mayor of Bamenda II council Peter Chenwi while handing over the center and equipment to the director urged the director of the center urged him to make good use of all that has been handed over to him as he will make sure that a team passes by to evaluate how the equipment is being used.

The equipment should be used judiciously. A team will come and inspect the usage of this equipment from time to time”, he said.

Mayor Chenwi Peter further expressed appreciation for the work done by contractors stating that it is proof that the law of decentralization is effective.

We are here to tell you all that the law of decentralization that says mayors have been given power is here now. Bamenda II council has from the budget of 2021 through the women empowerment center constructed this building. This is to show you that the head of state is someone who does what he says he will do…this is to tell you that the law of decentralization is effective”, he noted.

He disclosed that his council took up the challenge to reconstruct and equip the center because of the role women have to play in society.

The women empowerment center was set ablaze in 2017 and the office of the mayor is its next neighbor we feel very uncomfortable…there is no good society without women. This center has a vital role to play in this region. We complain about unemployment of youths, now with this center, we see that after they are trained they go out to assist the community” he intimated.

Since the center was set ablaze on May 19, 2017, the center has never been the same after losing material worth one hundred million, a shrink in the population at the center with not up to one-quarter of the population in present-day as compared to the days before it went down in ashes.

On his part, the director for the center Mr. Tendongmo Franklin expressed his gratitude to the mayor while promising that the building and materials donated will serve the purpose for which it was created.

I want to thank you heartily for this magnificent building. This center has suffered for more than five years and today we are happy. I want to promise you that this center will serve the purpose for which it was created”, the director said.

The Bamenda Women's Empowerment center runs six departments; catering and hotel management, sewing, decoration, ICT, beadwork, and traditional embroidery.
