Authorized to take place in Yaounde by the Paramount Fon of Bafut, HRH Fon Abumbi II, the Bafut community based in Yaounde has organized the Manjong to exhibit and showcase the culture of the Bafut people.
The event was also used to raise funds to champion some development projects in Bafut. Top amongst the projects is the provision of pipe-borne water, and electricity, the maintenance of farm-to-market roads, and also to ensure that schools are effective within the Bafut community.
After launching a community-centered budget during the budgetary council session, Bafut mayor Ngwakongoh Lawrence highlighted that the development of Bafut is the collective responsibility of all the sons and daughters of Bafut as he launched the fundraiser with the sum of 300.000FCFA.
Present at the cultural event was the Member of Parliament for the Bafut-Tubah constituency, Hon Agho Oliver. According to the development-oriented MP, "development is our thing", noting that people cannot come from elsewhere to develop Bafut for them.
Supporting the fundraising, Hon. Agho Oliver donated a million francs while he was supported by Territorial Administration minister Paul Atanga Nji with the sum of 300.000FCFA, Paul Ghogomu with 300.000FCFA, and minister Felix Mbayu with 100.000FCFA.
On behalf of the Bafut community, one of the indigenes appreciated Hon. Agho Oliver for always being at the forefront of development in Bafut notably his support to PSS Bafut, support to patients, and supporting the poor and underprivileged.
Dr. Ajambeng Walter, Chief of Centre for IRAD Bambui supported the fundraising with 250.000FCFA.
Organized by Mme. Megan Jacqueline, Inspector General of services at the Ministry of Public Service and Administrative Reforms, the Bafut Manjong and find raising was also supported by the former MP for Bafut/Tubah Hon. Fusi Namukong who supported with 100.000FCFA and 150.000FCFA from the SDF National chairman Ni John Fru Ndi.
The 2022 Bafut Manjong was held this year for the first time since 2016.
