The mayor of Bamenda II council, Chenwi Peter, has on Thursday January 26 2023 handed chairs, benches, and tables to six primary schools within the Bamenda II municipality.
According to the Mayor, he had received a battery of complaints from Head teachers who say they have had an increase of pupils due to the crisis. Hence, the Mayor handed this material so the children can have a good learning environment.
"The council has decided to make children study under a serene atmosphere. It greatly improves the teaching and learning process and makes the process easy." Mayor Chenwi said.
A total of 106 benches, 60 nursery school tables and 179 chairs were handed to the Head Teachers of Islamic School Old Town, Government Practicing Nursery School Social Insurance, Government Practicing School Old Town Groups I and II and Government Bilingual Practicing School Old Town Groups I and II.
In expressing gratitude to the Mayor, the head teacher of the Islamic School Old Town stated how pleased she was with the gesture and says she has pupils mainly in the nursery section who barely seat on benches which is largely as a result of the influx of children from crisis hit divisions.
The head teacher of Government Bilingual Practicing School Old Town II encouraged the Mayor to continue supporting schools to accommodate pupils with words of gratitude.
"I particularly want to thank the Mayor for renovating two classrooms for us last year. We are indeed grateful." Mr Jean said.
Mayor Chenwi Peter also used the event to state his priority projects for 2023 with focus on health and education. Hence a total of 40 million has been allocated to revamp schools around the Divisional Officers office and some areas around Ntambag.
The occasion came to a close with Prime International handing over an award to the Mayor as the most resilient in times of crisis.
